The Historical Construction Equipment Association (HCEA) holds an annual convention which includes demonstrations of antique construction equipment, a banquet and other events. Each convention features one machine. The HCEA needed a logo and a brand identity for the convention that could change every year to include the new featured machine. The challenge was to design a logo that would include a few lines of text, an illustration and the year.
I designed the logo as a circle in order to include all of the text within the logo. The machine in the center of the logo will change every year. The new machines will be drawn every year in the same style to maintain the brand.
The circle logo was a good solution because the machine could easily be changed in the center every year. It also worked well for fitting the text within the logo. The new logo and brand identity was used on ads, a place mat for local restaurants, and on a metal watch fob and belt buckle. The logo prominently features the year because members of the HCEA like to collect items from the event every year.
