Lynda.com Course on InDesign CS5: Dynamic Publishing Workflows in XML


I completed my first complete course on lynda.com today. The course is named InDesign CS5: Dynamic Publishing Workflows in XML. The course taught me how to create dynamic workflows by importing XML data into InDesign layouts. It explained how to create XML documents, import and export them in InDesign CS5 and how to apply styles and tags to an InDesign document.

My Creative Process


Lately I have heard many discussions about the creative process and various tools to aid the process. This has made me think about my creative process. I have been working as a designer for some time now that I do not even think about the process anymore. During my last project I took note of the steps that I take to come up with a design solution. Advocates for Design at Cleveland’s Startup Weekend


A few weeks ago I attended Cleveland’s first Startup Weekend. The goal of the weekend was to start eight businesses over the weekend. There were 39 pitches. Each person had two minutes to describe their business idea and list who they needed to work on their team. Most of the pitches requested developers and business professionals, but only three people requested designers, which made me think that as designers we must not be advocating design as well as we should to the business community.

Cleveland Startup Weekend


When I signed up for Cleveland’s first Startup Weekend, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The thought of grouping up with strangers to start a business in a weekend reminded me of some kind of reality show competition. I wondered what I would work on and with whom.
